MANY WARSHIPS ORDERED TO CHINA ALL SHANTUNG PROVINCE MAY BE SEIZED (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) Reed. 9.25 a.m. SHANGHAI, Monday. JAPAN is pouring troops into Shantung, and many warships are in Chinese waters, in anticipation of anti-Japanese outbreaks. ,
An additional 8,000 troops have been ordered from Nagoya, making a total of 13,000 in Shantung Province. Eight destroyers have been ordered to the Yangtse to protect the nationals in the principal ports, seven destroyers to Canton and four to Shanghai. General Ugaki, Minister of War in 1925, has been appointed Commander-in-Chief of the land forces.
It is reported that the Japanese Governmen tproposes placing Tsinan and the neighbouring regions under Japanese protection, pending the restoration of peace. There is a possibility that the whole of Shantung will be temporarily seized. Reports of atrocities on Japanese civilians, especially women, are whipping the Japanese anger to a dangerous point.
