THE USED CAR
PROBLEM TO BE STUDIED IN U.S.A. That all present methods of solving the used car problem have failed is the admission contained in the announcement that the Department of Commerce of the U.S.A. has started an intensive study of the trouble. But the department does not pride itself that it can cure the patient. It intends merely “to find the facts, and let the industry supply the solution.” The problem is being studied primarily from the new point of the dealer—the man who must accept the old cars as trades-in when he sells a new one. Of hundreds of dealers, these questions will be asked: “What is your main used car problem?” “Has any plan ever been devised in your city for handling the used car problem?” “What are the main and secondary reasons for the plan’s failure?” “What is your solution?”
This last question is sure to let loose about a million theories, but probably some of the dealers will tell the truth and say, “I haven’t one. Have you?”
