Dramatic Coincidence
(United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) Received 9.5 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day.
The Federal Minister of Trade and Customs, the Hon. Herbert Edward Pratten, died dramatically yesterday. Mr. Pratten collapsed while addressing a women’s meeting at Turramurra suburb. His last words were: “I wonder what view the historian of 100 years hence will take of politicians of to-day ?” Mr. Pratten fell, momentarily revived, and died within five minutes. The audience was stunned. It was Mr. Pratten’s 63rd birthday, and the women had a huge cake on which were 63 lighted candles to present after the gathering. The widow and son were among the audience. Mr. Pratten had a long political and public career. He was a former senator and recently visited New Zealand.
