LIKELY SETTLERS
ALL THE WAY FROM BENGAL ATTRACTIONS OF N.Z. There is a prospect that four little boys and the same number of girls who have travelled all the way from Bengal with their parents, may become eight good New Zealanders. The prospect of travelling across the Indian Ocean, transhipping in Australia and then crossing the turbulent Tasman—this sea more than maintained its reputation during the Maunganui’s trip—did not deter Mr. and Mrs. W. Cummsky, despite their large family. All reported well on arrival by the Maunganui in Auckland to-day. Away back in Bengal Mr. Cummsky (who also brought Mrs. McCormack, his mother-in-law, in addition to the eight little Cummskys)), is an enginedriver. At the moment he is enjoying 18 months’ leave. He had heard so much about New Zealand, however, that he determined to bring the whole of his family to see the Dominion. If the prospect pleases—and there is every possibility that it will, for Auckland smiled her happiest greeting this morning for the family from India — there is every likelihood that the Cummsky menage will be established in New Zealand. You see, it is like this. The Cummskys have four sons. The outlook for boys in India is not particularly bright. It is even less attractive for girls. Therefore, Mr. Cummsky came to the conclusion that New Zealand would have something better to offer. And so, the Cummskys are here.
