EMPIRE NEW PROGRAMME TO-NIGHT The stern and oft-times cruel intolerance of the early Pilgrim Fathers, their hardships and their fanatical opposition to all that savoured of pleasure, form the background for one of the most startling and dramatic screen productions of recent times. “The Scarlet Letter,” which is now at the Empire Theatre for a,special season. “The Scarlet Letter” is an accurate and inspiring rendition of Nathanial Hawthorne’s immortal novel in which Lillian Gish, of •‘The White Sister” fame, has the stellar role, and is supported bv Lars Hanson, Karl Dane and Henry B. Walthall. “Galloping Fury,” starring Hoot Gibson, will also be shown on the same programme. It is a thrilling Western story with Hoot in the role of a lighting, smiling cowboy.
