TOTALISATOR INQUIRY

MANAGER NOT TO BLAME Pi'css Association. HASTINGS, Saturday. The committee of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club held a full inquiry yesterday into tho circumstances surrounding the early closing of the totalisator before the sixth race on Friday, April 27. It was found that the totalisator manager, Mr. C. J. Tipping, was in no way to blame. The sixth race was the Poukawa Handicap. Betting did not seem to have been long in progress when the totalisator closed. The machine did not close before time, but as there was only a small sum invested and particulars as to the barrier positions had not been posted, the public had no idea that t!he windows would go down. One result was that five runners had only £1 invested on their chance, another carried £2, two carried £ 3 each, and one carried £4. The race was won by Keen, who was one of the horses carrying only £l. RACING FIXTURES May 3, 5 —Nelson Jockey Club. May 10, 12.—Egmont Racing Club. May 12.—Ashburton Cty. Racing Club.
