BOXER’S PLANS UPSET
TRAINING ON REMUERA “MUST NOT MIX WITH PASSENGERS” (Special to THE SUN) WELLINGTON To-day. Indignation is felt in Wellington at the treatment of A. Cleverley, one of New Zealand’s boxing representatives on the way to the Olympic Games, by the captain of the liner Remuera Cleverley, who had arranged to work his passage t 3 England before the Olympic Fund swelled to such proportions as to make a paid passage possible, elected to remain on the ship’s articles. By performing vigorous work below decks he hoped to keep his weight d jwn to the welterweight class instead of light-heavy-weight. When the Remuera’s commander was asked to gran: Cleverley facilities to train with Morgan. New Zealand’s other boxing representative, however, this was refused, the reason given being that Cleverley must not mingle with the passengers. Learning of this decision, another New Zealander who had decided to work his way to the Games and had been placed on the ship’s articles, determined to pay his passage.
