“THE LODGER” “The Lodger,” starring Ivor Kovello, in a thrilling mystery drama, is nowbeing shown at the Empire Theatre. The story concerns “The Avenger,” a mysterious murderer in London, who kills only girls with golden hair. A quiet family named Bunting, have a daughter with golden hair, and when their apartment is taken by a mysterious lodger, they imagine he is ‘‘The Avenger.” One night Mrs. Bunting wakes up with a start to hear the lodger creeping down the stairs. She sees him walk off, muffled and carrying his bag. Some time later he returns and locks himself in his room. Next morning Mrs. Bunting reads that the “Avenger” has committed another murder, his victim this time being one of the fair-haired chon: girls in “Golden Curls.” She remembers the incident of the previous night and mentally connects it with the murder. She almost faints when the realisation comes to her of the terrible danger in which her daughter Daisy stands if the lodger is the “Avenger.” Suddenly a crash in the lodger’s room is heaj-d, followed by a scream Daisy. “A Million Bid,” starring Dolores Costello, is the second feature on the programme.
