DRUNKEN QUARTET
MEN WITH LONG LISTS POLICE COURT PUNISHMENT A quartet of drunkards, each cf whom had to own to a substantial list of previous convictions, appeared at the Police Court to-day. John Dennehy, aged 42. made his 70th appearance. He pleaded guilty' to charges of drunkenness and breach of his prohibition order. “He’s just a vagrant,” said .SeniorSergeant Cummings. He was fined £3 in default 14 days’ imprisonment for drunkenness. For the other offence he was convicted and discharged. Charles McGeahan, aged 56, made his 120th appearance. He was fined £3, in default 14 days’ imprisonment. • George Thornham. aged 33, pleaded guilty to his sixth offence for drunkenness within six months. He also admitted breaking a window valued at 255. Senior-Sergeant Cummings aid that accused had tried to get Into the Harbour Board office, and when turned away had thrown a stone through a window. For drunkenness he was fined £3 in default 14 days’ imprisonment. On the other'charge he was fined i 1 and ordered to pay the costs of th.- window, in default one •nonth’s imprisonment William Anderson, aged 38 : asked to be sent to Roto Roa. He had pleaded guilty to his fifth charge of drunkenness within six months. “You can have 14 days.” said the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, ‘and you go to the island when you come out ”
