BOXING BOUTS

McKNIGHT TO MEET HAY The Northern Boxing Association will open the new season on May 18, when a bout between Artie Hay and Nelson McKnight will be staged. Hay has replied accepting the match, and it is understood that McKnight has also accepted. The bout will be of 15 two-minue rounds, for a purse of £loo'. Shortening the rounds from three minutes to two minutes in order to make the fight fast and open was given a trial in the McDonald-Broadfoot bout, and the result was 15 fast and furious rounds. As was stated in The Sun on Wednesday, the association is also endeaving to match Leckie and Gillespie for a bout on June 4. With a bout on May 18, and a projected one on June 4. Auckland enthusiasts will have plenty of fistic fare to make up for the period of peace. It will be noted that May IS is a Friday, but this was the only night on which the Town Hall was vacant, so the association decided to depart from the customary Monday.
