MANUMITS CHANCE
TO-MORROW’S FEATURED MATCH GRAFTON MEETS NORTH SHORE BY making the Manukau-Ponsonby clash to-morrow’s featured match, the Auckland Rugby Union is giving Manukau a golden chance to win early fame. Should they down the redoubtable Ponsonby team, the men from over the isthmus will definitely establish themselves as factors in the senior grade tussles.
With this match as the star attraction, Eden Park patrons should tomorrow witness a royal struggle between ponderous, powerful forwards, and swift, alert backs. Ponsonby’s pack, of course, is not to be despised; but to-morrow it will be overweighted, if not outpaced. On the other hand the Ponsonby backs should be superior to the opposing rearguard. Manukau’s leaven of classy performers, such as Falwasser, 5# unlikely to raise it to the level of Ponsonby’s* combination, with its electric speed and accuracy. Past performances point to a win for Ponsonby. In the other matches Grafton is pitted against Shore, Varsity against City, Grammar Old Boys against Rifles, and Marists against Training College. In each case the first team mentioned will carry the bulk of support, SATURDAY’S TEAMS Senior Grade Grammar Old Boys.—Singleton, Olsen, Wilson, Williams (2), Badeley, Skelton (2), Lusk, Potter, Whelan, McCarthy, Wilson, Batty, Schnauer, Knight, Cathcart, Short.
