QUERY CLUB DANCE

ANNUAL CHARITY FUNCTION ORGANISED BY GIRLS The girl members of the Query Club had thought of everything that they possibly could to make the annual dance they gave last evening jn aid of local charities, a huge success. QUEEN CARNIVAL FOR CHURCH FUNDS It has been proposed to hold a Queen Carnival and bazaar in Ohakune during the early part of August in aid of the building fund for the new Catholic Church. There is no doubt a good response will be given to an appeal for such a cause, and that the event will prove a success. Mr. F. Cody and Mr. W. Woodslock have been appointed joint secretaries for the Queen carnival and bazaar. In conjunction with the carnival a series .of dances will be run, as well as euchre parties and other forms .of entertainment. The “queens" for the different centres have been chosen as follow: Town, Miss M. Cranston; Junction, Miss P. York; Country and Sawmills, Miss Plunkett; Maori, not yet chosen. LODGE FUNCTION MUSIC AND GAMES A very enjoyable social evening; was spent in the Methodist Hall, Papatoetoe, on Tuesday evening by the members of the Loyal Orange Institution No. 117, and their friends. Mr. F. W. Fell, master of the lodge, was in the chair. The following contributed to the evening’s entertainment. Instrumental quartet, Messrs. E. Kerr, A. Bullen, H. Rose and O. Rose; elocutionary item, Miss Ruby Wallace; vocal duet, Messrs. H. and J. Niekolls; humourous sketch, Mr. W. Sanderson: instrumental duet, Messrs. H. F.ose and A. Bullen. The Rev. T. H. Bccersall, of Otahuhu, gave a very interesting address, and Mr. R. Johnston recited 'The Qualifications of an Orangeman.”

Community games under the direction of Mr. J. Sanderson added gaiety to the function.
