NEW CATHOLIC CHURCH

DESIGN COMPLETE ERECTION DATE UNCERTAIN A new church for the Marist Fathers, in Mountain Road, Mount Albert, has been designed, but the structure will not be erected until the debt on the existing church is paid off. To raise funds to extinguish this debt, a. carnival will be opened in the Town Hall concert chamber this evening, and will continue to-morrow evening and Saturday afternoon. It is hoped that the carnival wil realise sufficient funds to clear the old church of debt. Then a start will be made to collect a building fund for the new structure. The new church will be built of stone, faced with brick, and will present an imposing front. It will accommodate 400 people. The church, which will be erected on property at present owned by the Marist Fathers, will fill a long-felt want in the district, as the present building is too small to accommodate the congregation.
