“SMALL HOSPITALS NOT WANTED IN N.Z.”
DIRECTOR-GENERAL’S VIEW “One-man hospitals are not good for the country. With the good roads and improved means of ambulance transport, I nope to see country hospitals reduced tnrjugh the length and breadth of the Do*
The Director-General of Health. Dr. T. H. A. Valintine. made this statement to-day to a deputation of Warkworth residents.
He declared that there was really no need for country hospitals. The- country had paid a great deai for base hospitals, but it was found that relatively, the county hospitals were costing a great deal more for less service. Quick transport in most districts brought patients to the base. In answer to a question, the Dir-ector-General said: “Although I have stated what I think of small hospitals, I still stoutly adhere to the advisability of the establishment of maternity hospitals. If the Warkworth Hospital is to be solely a maternity home, 1 am perfectly prepared to discuss the situation.”
