The first reliable advices from Peking state that the South China Nationalist forces entered Ts»-nan-fu unopposed on Tuesday morning. This indicates that the route to Peking is now virtually opened, and possibly foreshadows the retreat of General Chang Tso-lin from Peking to Mukden. It is stated that xhe majority of the Shantung troops evacuated Tsai-uan on Monday, and are retreating to the north of the Y'ellow River, leaving only police units at Tupan. which Chang-Chung-Chang. of Shantung, remained to command, but there are no reports of Chang-Chuug-Chang having been captured. Official advises state that Japanese troops guarding the Japanese quarter at Tsi-nan shot and killed one of the 300 Shantung rabble which was attempting to loot a Japanese shop.
