TEACHERS’ BONDS

NO AMENDMENT DEPARTMENT’S FEARS Amendment to the bond between teachers and Education Department, as suggested by the Auckland Education Board, has been refused because the department believes that it would “give teachers additional grounds for refusing to fulfil their obligations under their bonds.” The department advised the board to-day that it was desirous of every student’s giving service in return for the cost of his training. It was only on account of a temporary surplus of teachers that the department was prepared to withhold for the meantime the enforcement of the penal clauses of the bond. “We had no idea of releasing teachers from their bonds.” said the chairman, MV. A. Burns. “We were trying to find employment for them.”
