MORE ARRESTS MADE
COUNTERFEITING CHARGE FORGED NOTES IN AUSTRALIA (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) Reed. 9.57 a.m. MELBOURNE, To-day. Three additional arrests have been made, following the seizure of 10,000 spurious £5 notes. The arrested men are John Howartli, of Geelong, contractor; Ralph Miller, Geelong, farmer; Benjamin Thomas, Geelong, tailor. Bail has been allowed. A Melbourne cablegram of Sunday read as follows: The Melbourne police effected the greatest and most sensational coup known for years. They raided a suspected house at Ocean Grove, near Geelong, and discovered a complete engraving plant and 10,000 counterfeit £5 bank-notes. Stephen Karasickwick, a process engraver, and a girl named Sima Marchenko were arrested. When the police broke into the house Karasickwick was working at a printing machine. He had a loaded gun beside him, but did not attempt to Lise it. The house is situated in a remote part of a thick area of scrub and the police had to force an entry. They completely surprised the inmates. The raid was the outcome of police investigations into the circulation of forged £lO bank-notes at recent Melbourne and Sydney race meetings.
