BRIDE GIVES “STAG” PARTY MEN GUESTS ONLY A custom among brides is to entertain girl friends prior to the wedding day, but surely it is a very up-to-date idea for a bride to hold a •'stag'’ party, at which only male friends are entertained? A recent London bride gave a party for her men friends, but her future husband was not invited. “I decided to give such a party long before I heard about the ‘hag’ party given by a woman to her woman friends a short while ago,” said the bride-to-be. Her guests met in the cocktail bar of a West End restaurant, and then wended their way to an Italian restaurant in Soho for dinner. The doctor fiancee regarded the “stag” party as an amusing idea. The Mayoress treated her guests to a dainty afternoon tea. * * * Particularly beautiful decorations enhanced the appearance of the hall at the annual ball of the Kaitieke “Bachelor Girls.” The attendance was large, and the function was if anything more enjoyable and successful than usual. Miss Trevena and Mr. Matthews supplied the music, and a number of extras were given by guests. Miss P. Trevena and Mr. S. Bobbs won the spot waltz. Mr. Inverarity was M.C., and Mr. Crocker, one of the liall trustees, returned thanks to the “Bachelor Girls” for the large financial result that would come to the hall funds from the ball. * * * The president, Mrs. Barler, was in the chair at a committee meeting of the Taumarunui District Branch of the Women’s Division of the Kew Zealand Farmers’ Union. A report on the work of the visiting housekeeper showed that she was still giving a great deal of assistance where it was most needed. The committee resolved to rent a room from Mr. A. G. Riches, in the Enterprise Buildings, to be fitted up as a rest room for settlers’ wives and young families. The room was open as from May 1. At an “afternoon tea” held for members of the branch, over 80 were present, and a really happy time was spent. Miss Pittams, Mikimutu, won a very amusing competition, and a lovely cake presented by Mrs. Jackson, Dominion treasurer, Masterton, for raffling, fell as a tie to Mrs. Hourigan and Mrs. Pendray. Mrs. Hall and Miss Kenderdine gave a pianoforte and violin duet, and Mrs. Weatherhog sang songs. A double farewell took place in the Foresters’ Hall.
