WAITING FOR ARAFUNI
THAMES VALLEY POWER PRIVATE PLANTS COMMISSIONED DAIRY FACTORIES CONCERNED (Special to THE SUN) TE AROHA, To-day. “So far we have not been taken into the confidence of the department,” said Mr. R. Sprague, manager for the Thames Valley Power Board, in presenting a report to the board, at its meeting yesterday, on arrangements made with the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Association to deal with power shortage caused through delay at Arapuhi. The board had feared that, through the development of circumstances compelling factories to carry their own load, it would permanently lose their patronage, but Mr. Sprague was able to report yesterday, after a long conference with the Public Works Department and New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Association, that this would be avoided.
In the meantime, the Dairy Association was agreeing that its several plants should generate power within limited hours, these to be suspended during emergency conditions. Recompense for the energy provided by the dairy companies will be granted in the form of payment per unit, plus a subsidy.
There was some discussion after Mr. Sprague had presented his report, as to what constituted an emergency situation, and the board appointed its chairman, manager and engineer to make an interpretation for its future guidance.
