DUNEDIN DOUBLE WILL BE RUN ON THURSDAY
FINE FIELD IN BIG EVENT SPEEDY MILERS IN FLYING The trotting season in the far South will be brought to a close this week when the Forbury Park Club stages its winter fixture. The session opens to-morrow and terminates on Saturday and a successful function is assured. The chief event on the programme for the opening day is the Prince of Wales Handicap, a two-mile event, with a limit of 4.32. PRINCE OF WALES HANDICAP Of £600; 2 miles. Moneyspider . Lt Daphne D ? Oro. 12 Dalmeny .... Lt Pluto 24 Jolly Chimes . Lt St. Maura . . 24 Fight Ever . . Lt Peter Swift. . 24 Billy Sea . . . Lt Logan Chief . . 48 Zenith .... Lt Author Jinks . 48 Colene Pointer Lt Machine Gun . 72 _ . yds bhd Dalnahine ... 84 Trimmer ... 12 Sixteen of the 18 originally handicapped have accepted the invitation of the adjuster to engage in the contest, which, judging by the good qualitv and number of the contestants, will be productive of a stirring race. Dangerous Pair A useful lot are on the front line, including two pacers which have improved greatly during the season. There are Colene Pointer, dam of the fine three-year-old King's Craft. a winner at "Wellington on Saturday, and Zenith. Both have put up solid performances to date and if any of
those behind them wish to take the bulk of the stake money out of their reach, they will require to go pretty quick. Dalmeny, on the same mark, is on the improve, and will run a sound race. Billy Sea cannot be counted out either, and Fight Ever, if he would do his best in the contest, would have a say in the final decision. Two Solid Trotters Then there are the trotters Money Spider and Peter Swift, and as square-
gaiters cleaned up the pacers at Wellington. they may prove equal to working the oracle again. Peter Swif£ despite his penalty, will claim a lot ol attention. Daphne de Oro Is a bonny filly tha has good performances over this jour-
ney to her credit dnd she will appeal more than Trimmer. Pluto is a'pacer that threatens to reach the dress circle and may be a better proposition than St. Maura, who has been disappointing of late. Brilliant Author Jinks Logan Chief recently showed a return to form and will have friends off the 4.28, but that game little pacer Author Jinks will no doubt receive more consideration from backers. Judiciously handled the son of Author Dillon would give the opposition a great fight and his party would get some part of the prize-money. Machine Gun has been most consistent this season and at times rather unlucky, but he will have a hard part to play off a 4.26 mark. The back-marker Dalnahine would not a'ppeal to many if the footing was on the hard side, but given a soft track J. Henderson’s charge would beat more than beat him. Appearances point to Colene Pointer, Zenith, Peter Swift, Daphne de Oro and Author Jinks disputing the issue. with COLENE POINTER, ZENITH and AUTHOR JINKS most favoured. The Second Leg FLYING HANDICAP Of £275; 1 mile. Sahib Lt Kate Thorpe . 12 Sungleain. . . Lt King Pointer . 12 Auditress . . . Lt Desert Star . . 24 Direct Vesuvius ... 24 Morning ... Lt Rey Logan . . 24 Cannonball . . Lt Trimmer . "4 Dillon Gold . . Lt Daphne D Oro. 36 Parkwood ... Lt Jean McElwyn 36 . yds bhd Fight Ever . . 48 Maiwhareti . . 12 Brentloc .... 60 The “other leg” is the Flying Handicap, run over the sprint course of eight furlongs. Eighteen colour the card in this item, and it contains some very smart customers. On the limit is the speedy Sahib, who has been threatening to pull off a heat this season. but on not a few occasions he has
fired a stake into the ocean by jigging on the peg. Sungleam has been consistently in the small money. Auditress can scamper but is not too reliable at the jump- out, and Dillon Gold has struck form and will be in the
picture. Auckland will be represented by Direct Morning, who has a fine burst of speed and if he hits the trail correctly will have to be reckoned withl Kate Thorpe and King Pointer are a good pair on a handy mark, and th« ; latter will keep the field busy on th« j journey. Desert Star is overdue and the Southerner will have a royal Chance of inscribing his name on the winning list before the season closesVesuvius is at the top of his form and can pull out a fine effort over this distance. Trimmer has not been goin£ off the peg generously of late, but j should he hop out quickly the others : will have the hardest part to do to top him off. Rey Logan has not ful* filled expectations this year but may be suited by the shorter journey- ; Daphne de Oro and Jean McElwyn | a speedy pair and those in front vu* not require to make any errors vntfi the two fillies handy. Fight Ever and Brentloc are speedy pacers but their contract appears a difficult oneFancies will incline toward Direct Morning. King Pointer. Desert Star. Vesuvius. Trimmer and Jean McElwyn with perhaps KING POINTER, JEAN McELWYN and DIRECT MORNING best supported. TROTTING FIXTURES May 3. s—Forbury Park T.C. May s—Cambridge T.C. May 13 —Oamaru T.C.
