MINING NEWS

ALE URN I A.—The manager reports as follows: “The drive on the dropper going north has been extended from 327 ft to 341 ft. The leader is from 12in to 15in in width and the quartz, which is of a good character, is carrying good mineral of a class which accompanies gold. The country rock is of a much milder class than that previously passed through.” KURANUI. —The manager reports: “The crosscut from the Ross intermediate level to intersect the Barry’s and Hunt's reefs has been advanced lift for the week. The country being penetrated is of a very favourable description, being interlaced with mineral and silica seams. The drive on the cross leader has only been extended 3ft, making a total of 39ft. The quartz broken from here looks very promising and shows a lot of mineral and blend. The men have only been able to work in this face for three days this week on account of the air being too bad.”
