CONFIDENCE IN POINCARE
WHAT FRENCH ELECTIONS REVEAL NO EXTREMES OR EXPERIMENTS (United I*.A.—Bit Telegraph—Copyright) (Australian P.A.—United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. PARIS, Monday. The election results definitely indicate confidence in M. Poincare and his policy. His support of at least 340 shows the most moderate movement of public opinion from the extremes and the Left Centre toward the Right Centre. It is a victory of the elements of moderation, and a. verdict in favour of order and security at home and abroad. It is thought that the restoration, of confidence reflected in the financial world will be maintained. The elections show that France Internally is predominantly Republican, and is anxious to avoid extremes of experiments of any kind. The second ballots for the seats in, the Chamber of Deputies, which were not filled at the first ballots last Sunday, were held on Sunday, and 423 results have so far been announced. The present state of parties, with one seat unfilled, is as follows: Conservatives . .. 15 Republicans 145 Left Republicans 106 Republican Radicals 55 Radicals 123 Republican Socialists .. .. 47 Socialists 101 Communists 14 Regionalists .. .. 3 Socialist Communists .... 2 These results show that the Premier, M. Poincare, is assured of a substantial majority. The Minister of War, M. Painleve, and the Communists, MM. Cachin and Doriot, were reelected. As a result of the two ballots the Republicans have gained 41 seats, the Left Republicans 10, and the Radicals 12. The Radical Socialists lost 20, and the Communists lost 11.
