EMPIRE
“HINEMOA” TO-NIGHT The first New Zealand feature photoplay, “The Romance of Hinemoa,” acted entirely by Maoris, is being shown at the Empire Theatre to-night. In the story Hinemoa, daughter of Umukarai, chief of the Arawa Tribe, is wooded by Tutanekai, the son of the chief of the Ngati. A jealous rival, Tai, makes it appear that Tutanekai has stolen the chief’s sweet potatoes, an outrage on hospitality punishable by death. As an alternative he is
through a fireswept volcanic valley.
The humorous story of a wealthy young bachelor who loved not only unwisely but too often is worked out to a startling climax in the farce comedy, "The Irresistible Lover,” which is the second feature on the programme. Norman Kerry is the bachelor and Lois Moran is the girl who eventually brings him to his senses. William A. Beaudine directed.
