CAPITOL
BIG NEW PROGRAMME “Hula,” the story of an unconquered island, starring Clara Bqw, is the picture to be shown at the Capitol Theatre to-night. rT The story revolves around Hula, the lovely island daughter of “Old Bill” Calhoun. One day Anthony Haldane, a young British engineer, arrives at the Calhoun home to build a dam for “Old Bill.” It is a case of love at first sight. “Hula” doesn’t bother to hide her affections. Anthony masks his love, choosing to consider her a delightful child. To make “Hula” a little more uneasy, Mrs. Bane, a beautiful widow, tries to attract Anthony. Finally, in desperation, “Hula” resorts to a ruse which ends when Anthony dives into a stream in order to save her pet dog. This comes to a disastrous climax for the would-be rescuer, as “Hula” is forced to jump in and save him. Anthony tells her he loves her, and immediately turns on his heels. During the months that follow, “Hula” endeavours to force Anthony to commit himself again without success, as he persists in avoiding her. The second feature is “Three s a Crowd,” starring Harry Langdon.
