QUICK WORKER
BUSY WHEN LIGHT FAILED RAIDED HOTEL BEDROOM As soon as the lights went out in the Newmarket Hotel early on Saturday evening, George Waterman, aged 31, got busy. At the Police Court to-day he was charged with being found in an hotel bedroom without lawful excuse, and, further, with having obtained £1 by false pretences. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that accused had been warned away from the bedrooms during the day; but when the lights failed at 5.45, he clashed up a fire-escape, and entered a bedroom. He was, however, seen before he could steal anything. “I don’t remember anything,” said Waterman. “I was drinking from nine till six.” He was sentenced to concurrent terms of three months on each, charge.
