CLIMBED THROUGH WINDOW EARLY MORNING FIRE AT MOUNT EDEN When fire severely damaged =» house at 336 Mount Eden Road, shortly after one o’clock this morning, the occupants had to escape through a back window. I The house, which is owned and ' occupied by Mr. P. McElwain. is six-roomed structure and is built mainly of wood. The fire broke oui ; in the kitchen at back and had. a good hold before Mr. McElwain was awakened by the smoke and the noi^ 'of the flames. He had only time to awaken his wife and their two children and make a hurried escape through a window. The Mount Eden Brigade was summoned and was able to confine the fire to the rear rooms, which were completely gutted. The front was badly damaged by both water and heat.
