CANARY NOTES
The Auckland Yorkshire Canary Club held their Young Bird Show in the Hall o£ Psychology, Upper Queen Street, on Saturday last. Entries were not up to expectations and competition was in no way keen, the quality of exhibits falling behind other years. Most fanciers blamed a dragging moult for the poor entries, and it such is not the case it is a*bad look-out for the unflighted classes at the open shows which will soon be with us now. The hall was a decide'd improvement on previous locations, and is well lit and free from all draughts. Mr. W. A. Hanson judged and gave satisfaction, though he was hardly consistent in one or two classes. As we have repeatedly said and written, bad classes are hard to judge to suit everyone. Specials were won by Messrs. W. H. Pitts, R. Prentice and Geo. Munro. Mr. Pitts, a novice, taking special for best in show. Following are the class results: Class 1: Pitts, 1 and 3; Munro, 2. Class 2: Moore, 1 and 2; Munro, 3. Class 3: Prentice, 1; Ryan, 2. Class 4: Armitage, 1; Pitts, 2; Ryan, 3. Class 5: Munro, 1; Prentice, 2. Class 6: Moore, 1; Munro, 2. Class 8: Ashford, 1. Class 9: Pitts, 1; Ashford, 2 and 3. The Auckland Canary and Cage Bird Club is holding its young bird show in the Hall of Psychology on Saturday, May 5.
