CLASSING THE CLIP
Information which should prove invaluable to the average sheep-owner is contained in “Classing the Clip,” a handbook on wool-classing by Clarence E. Cowley, lecturer in charge of the sheep and wool department of the Sydney Technical College. Wool, _in all its phases, is dealt with —structure, characteristics, spinning, quality and yield. Clearly, yet simply, the writer puts a sound case for the better classing of our wools,, and shows why. Our copy, “Classing the Clip,” comes to hand direct from the publishers, Angus and Robertson, Sydney. A HEAVY MILKING HEIFER A heavy milking three-year-old Friesian heifer has been discovered in England. She has given 90|lb of milk in one day, a performance that is thought to be a record in this country for an animal of that age. Her calf, a male, born on November 21, weighed 1121 b at birth.
Official figures relative to wool shipments from South America during the year ended September 300, 1927, show that 365,210 bales were exported from Argentina, and 130,099 bales from Montevideo. The corresponding figures for the 1925-26 season were 348,196 and 113,884 bales respectively. A South American bale contains approximately 9241 b, or nearly iliree times as much as an Australian bale.
