NEW RAILWAY CHIEF
“NOT APPOINTED,” SAYS MR. COATES
(Special to THB SUtf) WELLINGTON, Friday. In an interview to-day the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, said: "It is perfectly true that I have discussed with Mr. Sterling the question of his accepting the responsibility of the chairmanship of the Railway Board, but in no way can it be suggested that he has been appointed.” It is understood that question could not be discussed while Mr. Sterling was bound by contract to the dairy company, but the way is now open to discussion. Mr. Dynes Fulton, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Company, explains that the statement regarding Mr. Sterling having been released from contract with the company was to be regarded as no more than an expression of the intention of his board, in the event of Mr. Sterling accepting the chairmanship of the Railway Board.
