HUTT PARK TROTS

INTERESTING CARD FINAL DAY FOR PRESENT SEASON THE fourth and final fixture for the 1927-28 season of the Wellington Trotting Club will take place at Hutt Park tomorrow when high-class racing should be produced by the fine material engaged in the various events.

THE Wellington Trotting Club, which for many years struggled along gamely with only one permit, was able to convince the authorities of its progressiveness and conscientiousness in an endeavour to promote and popularise the light-harness sport with the result it now enjoys the privilege of four days’ trotting in the year.

This season the club kept the meetings well separated, and four programmes were arranged, extending from September to April. The club has been favoured with success in each venture this season and the approaching function promises to prove no exception to the rule. Good fields are engaged throughout, and while in several instances they will not be unwieldy, will nevertheless ensure keen and exciting contests. Good class pacers and trotters will be seen in action and speculators are set a sound task to unravel the propositions set by the Southern handicapper. Air. H. Brinkman. Proceedings will commence with the AUTUMN TRIAL HANDICAP Of £150; 1£ miles; 3.2 limit. Rongonui . . . Lt. yds bhd Bara Gold . . Lt. Fair Dillon . . 12 Lorraine . . . Lt. Kiowa .... 12 Zolock Wood . Lt. Great Triumph 12 El Direct . . Lt. Alona Logan . 12 Golden Alorn . Lt. Guide Rangi . 12 Loiterer . . . Lt. Peter Daunt . 24 Rose Aiarie . Lt. Native Hero . 24 Wild Goose . . Lt. Hostess ... 24 yds bhd Atatenga . . 36 Crusader ... 12 Wakefield . . 48 Right on the front is the improving novice Loiterer, who ran Delightful to a close finish at Ashburton last Saturday, and on that form the Canterbury pacer will receive a lot of support. Rose Marie is expected to come good one of these days. Zolock Wood has plenty of speed but is doubtful at the start. Mona Logan is a great beginner but will be suited by a shorter journey, but Kiowa is a possibility. Great Triumph, if he elects to take on

this event, will be hammering at the finish and another to be handy when the argument is at its height will be Native Hero. Peter Daunt and Hostess also have recent form to recommend them, but LOITERER and GREAT TRIUMPH should be favourites, and if the latter is kept for a later heat NATIVE HERO will be in big demand. The next item to claim attention is one in which square-gaiters play the part, the EASTBOURNE HANDICAP Of £275; 15 miles; 3.35 limit. Katute .... Lt. Swiftbine . . 36 Bright Light Lt. Great Amazon 36 yds bhd Lady Fan . . 48 Louisiana ... 12 Kempton ... 48 Nelson Boy . 24. Tamerlane . . 72 Off the front is the disappointing Katute, who has a lot of pace, but will not use it to best advantage. Bright Light looks a better proposition. The latter has not won since Christmas, but at Hawera he gave a lot of cheek over two miles, just fading away at the end. Louisiana only wants to go solid to have a royal show, but she does not get going well in the early stages and may be better suited at two miles. Nelson Boy has been a most consistent place-getter, and he should be able to keep up his record. Swiftbine and Great Amazon have been in winning vein this season and both will add interest to the race. Lady Fan always goes well at the Hutt and must be reckoned with, and Kempton is on the up grade. Tamerlane is on a handy mark and will keep those in front busy. BRIGHT LIGHT will find most support and TAMERLANE, if started, will have a good following. Failing him NELSON BOY will find favour. The pacers will again put the gear on for the WAIWETU HANDICAP Of £200; 15 miles; 3.32 limit. Abundance . . Lt. Alac Dillon . 24 Exclusive . . Lt. Derby Lynn . 24 Alarlindo . . . Lt. ICreisler ... 24 Zella Lt. Pageant ... 36 Aliron .... Lt. Erin’s Royal . 36 • yds bhd Aleb 4S Alate o’ Mine . 24 Dillon Huon . 48 Binscarth ... 24

Of the limit contingent Zella has some useful performances to her credit of late and will set those behind her a solid task if they wish to head her off. Exclusive and Abundance are a pair that may turn up apy time, and Aiiron is showing improvement. Alate o’ Aline is nicely placed, and in this field is sure to have a host of pals. Binscarth can scamper over the distance in good style. Derby Lynn is another entitled to respect, but has a later engagement. Kreisler and* Mac Dillon on Coast form must be con-

sidered. Pageant was racing well at Hawera and Dillon Huon showed consistency at New Plymouth. .ZELLA may be first choice with much attention given to MATE O’ MINE and DERBY LYNN if started will also have friends. Preparations will then be made for those engaged in the ARMSTRONG HANDICAP Of £550; 2 miles; 4.32 limit. Shine Soon . . Lt Loch Aloigh Lt Sister Beatrice Lt yds bhd Billy Sea . . . Lt Trimmer ... 22 Jean AlcElwyn Lt Peterwah . . 4S Peter Swift . Lt Logan Park . 48 Fight Ever . Lt A useful field of 10 promises to face the starter, with seven of the contestants on the end, and it is quite likely the winner will come from this division. Two good trotters, in Sister Beatrice and Peter Swift are included in this lot and they will play their part well in such society. Billy Sea has improved a great deal since going South and must be taken seriously, and Fight Ever can unfurl a good effort over this distance if right. Shine Soon is well fancied in the South, and Jean AlcElwyn is in winning form. Then there is Loch Aloigh, who is regarded in most favourable light by North Island enthusiasts. He is tackling his

biggest job, but such a finished tradesman, he is sure to do it well. Trimmer is nicely placed, but a shorter distance may appeal to him, but Peterwah and Logan Park must not be left out of final calculations, in fact the latter will be a real snag. LOCH MOIGH, LOGAN PARK and SISTER BEATRICE may be the public elect. The excitement of the chief contest over, the public will turn attention to the TAITA HANDICAP Of 1150; 1 mile; 2.24 limit. Kiowa ... Lt Rongonui . Lt Crusader . . Lt Great Triumph Lt Pair Dillon . Lt Rose Marie Lt Guide Rangi . Lt yds bhd Alona Logan . Lt Peter Daunt . 22 Lorraine . . Lt Item 24 Zolock Wood Lt Horotana . . 36 Colder? Alorn Lt Wakefield ... 3G Eleven of the field are off the front line, and some smart performers appear among this lot. If reserved for this flutter Great Triumph should appeal most to backers, and the tliree-year-old promises to see a short price. A smart beginner like Alona Logan will be worth keeping in view for such a sprint, and with the racing she has recently done, Berkett’s charge should see the journey out. Rose Aiarie may find eight furlongs suitable, and Zolock Wood could make it interesting if he liked to go correctly. Peter Daunt will probably beat more than beat him, and Item is capable of running a quick mile. Horatane gomes from the powerful Donald stable and must be considered seriously. However, GREAT TRIUMPH should find most supporters, with many friends for MONA LOGAN. The next item will give trotters another chance to show their prowess, being the PROGRESSIVE HANDICAP Of £275; 2 miles; 4.50 limit. Aliss Leda ... Lt Louisiana . . 48 yds. bhd. Great Amazon 72 Nelson Boy . . 24 Kempton ... S 4 Bright Light . 36 Tamerlane . . . 120 Katute ... 36 Eight colour the card in this heat with Miss Leda, a. Hutt-trained mare, on the front. If she could be relied upon to go evenly she would have a chance. Nelson Boy is well placed, but he may find the last part of the journey tiresome, and Bright Light will probably be in the same boat, although he may go further than he did at Hawera before “skying the towel.’’ Katute should be held safe by Louisiana, who in fact appears to have it on those in front of her. If she has im-

proved on her Easter form the Nelsonowned mare will give the opposition something to do to get the thick end of the stake. Great Amazon has come to hand well since the New Year and scored several victories, and may not be done with yet, and Kempton is showing signs of staying on. Tamerlane, from the back, will let the others know he is in the race, and if the “breakers” are in evidence he will have them all in safe keeping. TAMERLANE and LOUISIANA may find most favour. Two-milers will again be in evidence for the PALAIER HANDICAP Of £250; 2 miles; 4.44 limit. Wakefield ... Lt Kreisler .... 24 Alarlindo ... Lt Transport ... 24 Mercury . . . Lt Alac Dillon ... 24 yds bhd Pageant .... 36 Erin’s Royal 12 Derby Lynn . . 36 King Craft . . 1.2 Lottie Advance 36 Binscarth ... 24 Alatagouri ... 36 Wenlo .... 24 Of the limit trio Mercury will appeal most, and if the Blenheim-owned pacer has improved since going into M. B. Edward’s stable, he will keep those behind him pretty busy. King Craft is a promising three-year-old that won the first time out at Addington in February, and although it was half a mile shorter, he showed signs of staying on. Binscarth is overdue, and if Wenlo is in the right mood, the roan will be in the picture. Pageant went a good two miles on the concluding day at Hawera in the big heat, registering 4.39 into third place, so off a 4.42 peg he will be hard to head off. Derby Lynn won at the same fixture like a good one, and her effort in the 16-furlong go was a particularly fine one. DERBY LYNN and PAGEANT may be the prime selections, but if the former should earn a penalty earlier KING CRAFT will be next in order. This will bring speculators to the climax in an endeavour to make a recovery in the FAREWELL HANDICAP Of £300; H miles; 2.47 limit. Honour Bright Lt Fight Ever . 36 yds bhd Black Admiral 36 Trimmer ... 12 St. Alaura . 36 Jean AlcElwyn 12 Logan Park 36 Epigram .... 12 A small field and no favour and everything should be able to get a good run. Honour Bright has the front to himself and should he get on the journey smartly will let the rest know he is there. There is a nice trio on the next mark and Trimmer only requires to hit the trail at the signal. Jean McElwyn will run a sound 10-furlongs and Epigram is striking form again. The back lot are speedy, and any one of the quartette is likely to unravel a great burst. St. Alaura’s form has not been right recently, and Black Admiral is due for a heat. Fight Ever won at New Brighton and Logan Park is' fast returning to his best form. JEAN MeELWYN and LOGAN PARK will be in demand, but in the absence of either one TRIMMER will find favour
