The Log Book

PERSONAL. —Mr. C. Sharpe has relieved Mr. A. G. M. Christie as chief officer of the Tahiti. Mr. Christie is at present on holiday at Christchuch. Mr. A. H. Dunning has rejoined the Tamahine as third officer, relieving Mr. C. G. Hills, who has been transferred to the Kahika in a similar capacity. Mr.. J. B. Hitchman has joined the Kairanga as third officer, vice Mr. R. B. Steere, who has come ashore for instructions. Captain J. W. Cameron, the Kaiapoi, and Captain W. A. Gray, of the Poolta, have exchanged /vessels. Captain S. Hewitt has been appointed to command the Kanna, relieving Captain Donald McDonald, who is awaiting orders. Captain B. M. Aldwell has resumed command of the Tahiti, after holidavs, and Captain W. Martin is ashore awaiting instructions. HINEMOA FOR NORFOLK ISLAND.— At 11 a.m. to-morrow. Spedding, Ltd., hopes to dispatch the Government steamer Hinemoa from Auckland for Norfolk Island with passengers, mails and cargo. REMUERA SAILING— The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Remuera, now filling up at Wellington, will sail fom there at 6 a.m. to-morrow for Southampton and London, via the Panama route. CORNWALL LEAVES PANAMA. —A cable message to the New Zealand Shipping Company reports that the Cornwall arrived at Panama last Thursday from Wellington, and left Colon on the following day for London and West Coast ports of Great Britain. The vessel sailed from Wellington on March 26. MIDDLESEX AT NEW YORK.— Cabled news has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the Federal steamer Middlesex arrived at New York last Thursday from Auckland, en route to London and West Coast ports of Great Britain. The vessel sailed from Auckland on March 23. PORT ADELAIDE LOADING. —The C. and D. Line steamer Port Adelaide arrived at Gisborne yesterday from Wanganui roadstead. She will leave Gisborne on Scvturday for Wellington, and Port Chalmers. The vessel will clear the Otago port on May 6 for London, via Panama. TOFUA CLEARS SUVA. —Cable advice has been received by the local office of the Union Company that the Island passenger steamer Tofua arrived at Suva at 3 p.m. on Wednesday from Auckland, and left again last evening for Tonga and Samoa. RUAHINE LEAVES HOME. —The local office of the New Zealand Shipoing Company has been advised that the liner Ruahine, from London, left Southa-mpton yesterday, for Wellington, where she is due on June 1. The vesesl is bringing passengers and mails for disembarkation at Wellington and cargo for discharge at Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. lONIC’S ITINERARY. —The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company reports that their liner lonic will now leave Wellington on Sunday morning to load at Lyttelton. From the latter port she is due back at Wellington on May 4 to fill up, and will sail finally from there at daybreak- on May 9 for Southampton and London, via Panama.

TURAKINA TO LOAD.— The New Zealand Shipping Company reports that the Turakina is to commence loading at Dunedin on May 14, and will subsequently load also at Bluff. Timaru, New Plymouth, Wanganui, and Wellington. The vessel is due at Wellington on June 1, and will sail finally from there on June 2 for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow, and Liverpool.

PORT VICTOR FOR HOME.—The C. and D. Line steamer Port Victor is to leave Lyttelton for London, via Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro. The following pasaengfrs will proceed with the vessel: Mr. and Mrs. F. A vent and infant (Christchurch), Mr. B. Short ' (Masterton), Miss M. M. Ollivier (Christchurch), Mr. M. H. Nisbet (Auckland) and Mr. A. W. Reeve (Napier). Dr. Taylor (Dunedin) is accomparvinsr the vessel as ship's surgeon.

GABRIELLA SAILS TO -MO ROW. —At S o’clock to-morrow morning the Lamb steamer Gabriella is to be dispatched from Auckland for Gisborne, Nelson and Greymouth, to complete the discharge of her cargo of coal from Newcastle, and hardwood poles from Port Stephens. The Northern Company is the local agent. WARSHIPS RETURN.—II.M S. Veronica, H.M.S. Laburnum and H.M. minesweeper Wakakura returned to Auckland this afternoon, after undergoing gunnery exercises in the Hauraki Gulf yesterday. The two sloops have been on a two months' cruise in southern waters. All the vessels berthed at Sheerless wharf. VOCO SAlLS.—After putting out a large quantity of bulk oil at Western Wharf, the Vacuum Oil Company’s tanker Voco sailed from Auckland at half-past seven this morning for Wellington. Lyttelton and Dunedin, to complete the discharge of her San Pedro cargo. NUCULA UNDOCKS MONDAY.—The Admiralty oil tanker Nucula is to undock on Monday, when she will berth at the Sheerlegs Wharf extension, to complete her overhaul. The tramp steamer Kir.tyre will dock next week to hace her hull cleaned and painted on the completion of her discharge. POOLTA SAILS TUESDAY. —The local office of the Union Company advises that the steamer Poolta, at present undergoing her annual overhaul and survey at Auckland, leaves here next Tuesday for Grafton direct, where she loads, thence Newcastle for Auckland, Wellington and Timaru. ROTORUA CLEARS PANAMA.—Advice has been received by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company that the liner Rotorua, .en route from Wellington to Southampton and London, arrived at Panama on Monday and sailed from Colon the following day in continuation of her voyage. KINTYRE TO COMPLETE. —Henderson and Macfarlane advise that the steamer Kintyre, which is undergoing repairs at Auckland, will now complete her discharge of Ocean Island phosphates at Auckland. The Mesopotamia, en route from Ocean Island to Auckland and New Plymouth, has been diverted and will discharge now at New Plymouth and Wanganui. CASE OIL FOR NEW ZEALAND.—It is announced that a new Norwegian mo-tor-ship is to load a full cargo of case oil at the Gulf of Mexico for seven Australian or New Zealand ports. The vessel is the Fernlane, of 4,310 tons gross. She was only launched on September 17 last year, at Copenhagen, and is owned by Fearnley and Eger, of Oslo. This will be her maiden voyage. RARANGA'S PROGRAMME.—L. D. Nathan and Company have been advised of the loading itinerary of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s steamer Raranga. The vessel is due at New Plymouth on May 21 from Australia. Later she proceeds to Wellington, thence Napier, Gisborne and Auckland, to fill up. She is due here on June 7 and is scheduled to clear this port finally on June 12 for New York, Boston and London, via Panama.

MATAKANA’S LOADING ITINERARY. —Due at Auckland on May 7 from Liverpool, the Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Matakana later proceeds to Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin, to complete discharge. She then returns to Auckland on May 28 for loading, after which she proceeds to Gisborne, thence Waikokopu, Napier and Wellington, to fill up. The vessel sails finally from Wellington on June 16 for London, Avonmouth, Liverpool and Glasgow, via Montevideo and Teneriffe. L. D. Nathan and Company will act as the local agents of the vessel. TAMAROA TO Paterson and Company advises that the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s liner Tamaroa, which is due at Wellington on May 7 from London, and Southampton, is due at Auckland on May 12 to complete discharge and to commence loading for her return voyage. From this port ' the Tamaroa proceeds to Port Chalmers, thence Lyttelton and Wellington, to fill up, and is scheduled to clear the latter port on June 9 for Southampton and London, via Panama. TON GAR IRO TO LOAD.—The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Tongariro, on completion of discharge at Dunedin, will proceed back to Lyttelton to commence loading there on May 6. She will next proceed to Wellington, arriving there on May 11, and sailing again on May 16 for Port Chalmers. From the Otago port the Tongariro is to sail finally oil May 23 for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow, and Liverpool. MAHIA’S LOADING ITINERARY.—The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company advises that the Mahia, which has been discharging and loading at New Plymouth, left there yesterday for Nelson to put out the reminder of her cargo, and to continue loading. The vessel will leave Nelson next Wednesday to load at Gisborne and Wellington. The Mahia is due at "Wellington on May 9, and will leave there on May 17 for London, via Cape Horn. ATLANTIC UNION COMPANY’S TANKER. —A new oil company, known as the Atlantic Union Oil Company, is now trading between California and Australia and New Zealand. The first vessel to their agency will be the Norwegian motor-tanker Ranja, which will discharge at probably Auckland, Wellington, Sydney and Melbourne. This vessel was only launched on February 10 last, and this will be her maiden voyage. The company has been to develop the economical transporation and distribution of the products of the Union Oil Company of California. Valuable land sights for the erection of storage facilities, as well as for bulk oil terminals, have been acquired in the principal ports of entry to Australian and New Zealand markets. Modern ocean terminals are to be erected at Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Wellington. At Auckland the area leased comprises seven sections on the western side of Freeman’s Bay reclamation.
