PERMANENT CENOTAPH
ANZAC DAY SERVICES PROPOSAL BY R.S.A. The Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association is considering a proposal that a permanent cenotaph should be erected in Auckland for the celebration of Anzac Day services. It is suggested, also, that the services should be held outside instead of being confined to a hall in which everyone could not be accommodated. The question was raised at the annual meeting of the • Returned Soldiers’ Association last evening, when mention was made of the fact that many could not secure admission to the Town Hall on Wednesday. Mr. S. Austin Carr said that what was wanted was a service like that of Wellington, where the school boys and girls, the cadets and territorials and the general public joined with the returned soldiers in remembering the men who had fallen. Mr. E. F. Andrews said his experience of the outdoor service was that in its most solemn moment it was disturbed by a dog or by children getting up and chasing one another.
The- executive was empowered to consider the question.
