ST. PAUL’S CHURCH

BEST YEAR FOR DECADE From the point of view of finance and attendance at public worship St. Paul’s Church, city, has experienced the most progressive and successful year for a decade. The annual meeting of parishioners held this week was largely attended. Commenting upon the sound state of the finances, the vicar, the Rev. Cecil Watson, said that again the missionary quota had been fully met. General offerings had risen to a point not attained for ten years. A contributory cause of the increase was the adoption of the duplex envelope system of giving. It would be a recommendation to the incoming vestry that \ consideration be given to the question of the abolition of collections in the church. m A liability of £1,050 owing to the General Trust Board had been wiped off in considerably less time than required under the contract. The parish debts had been reduced by £293 and now stood at £1,019, all owing to the building fund which to date amounted to £2,570. The vicar hoped it would be possible to begin building the new chancel 15 months hence. The number of Communions made during the year had shown an increase of over 300, compared with the figures for the previous year. Other statistics were about the same. Election of officers resulted: —Vicar s ■warden Mr. A. J. Stratford; people s warden, Mr. E. C- Thomas; deputywarden, Mr. W. E. Jeffery; vestrymen, Messrs. L. J. Armitage, S. Betts, S. W. Hadlow, E. Hartley, A. J. Hol^ le y’ ™ * E. .Teffery, H. F- Jillings F. S. T. Little, C. S. Michel and G. E. Jones, hon. auditors, Messrs, C. Cork and E. J. Litt.
