FIRE AT MANUREWA
SMALL COTTAGE BURNED . (From Our Own Ccorrespondent) MANUREWA, To-day. A three-roomed wooden cottage, owned and occupied by Mr. Charles Henry Rau, situated in James Road, Manurewa, was totally destroyed by fire at 1 a.m. yesterday. The fire was first noticed by the family, who recently moved into a new house next door. A bucket brigade was formed and attention was paid to saving the new house, and although the windows were smashed with the heat, and the side of the building badly scorched, a good save was effected. Some of the furniture was still in the house which was destroyed, and was not covered by insurance. The South British Insurance Company holds a policy over the building for £l9O. The damage to the new residence is covered by the State office.
