A PPARENTLY the French sporting public is less violent than the American. When Joe Dundee, world welter-weight champion, failed to appear in the ring against Ace Hudkins at Los Angeles some time ago the dissatisfied fans smashed almost every chair. But when several boxers failed to appear in the ring at Marseilles recently, the disappointed fans contented themselves by carrying off the chairs. Four bouts were on the programme. The first one was the last. The spectators demanded that, their money be refunded, but the cashier had left with the receipts. When the spectators left a number of the chairs left with them.
