PATERSON IN FORM DAVIS CUP PLAY AT ROME (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyrigh’t (Australian Press Association) Reed. 12.10 p.m. ROME, Thursday. All the Australian tennis players have come through the Davis Cup eliminating rounds. Paterson was most brilliant. He was slightly erratic in his backhand, but otherwise he put up his best play in the singles for many seasons, it being reminiscent of his Wimoledon days. His service was terrific and when he came to the net his smashing kills delighted the spectators. Frenz ranks among the first ten in Germany. Hop man •'’Australia) delighted the gallery with his thorough mastery of the cou t and exceptional accuracy. The service was not very j strong, but it made Hopman give his | best.
