ADMIRED GIRL’S LEGS
YOUTH IN COURT "THESE ENLIGHTENED DAYS” (Special to THE SUNJ WANGANUI, Wednesday. ’“You have nice legs, miss,” remarked a young man to a girl, as he handed her a circular. He was not encouraged to continue his compliments, so later, when he met the girl going into her home, he put his arm round her waist. The girl escaped, however, and today the youth, whose name was suppressed, found himself in court charged with, common assault. He seemed to have seen his mistake, for in giving evidence. Detective Walsh remarked: “In plain language, he recognises that he has been a silly young fool.” Mr. W. J. Treadwell, who appeared for the offender, said he had advised the latter to plead guilty, so that it would not be necessary for the girl to appear in court and be cross-examined It was quite true that the boy had passed the remark about the young lady’s legs. In these enlightened days there was no fault in admiring a nice pair of legs, but he should have kept the remark to himself. “I do not suggest he had any right to do it, however,” he continued, “and I do not suggest anything against the girl.” The accused was convicted and ordered to come up fot sentence if called upon.
