NORTHCOTE BOROUGH
FURTHER CONCRETE WORKS CONSIDERED
The completion of the main roads of the borough subject to a subsidy from tl*e Main Highways Board was considered at a special meeting of the Northcote Borough Council last evening, when estimates were submitted by A. E. Greville Walker, consulting engineer. The proposed works are:—Formation of Lake Road from its junction with Onewa Road to the borough boundary, concrete paving 18ft. wide with macadam shoulders, length of highway, 105.5 chains, total cost. £19,230; formation of Onewa Road from its junction with Northcote Road, and Lake Road to the borough boundary, concrete paving 18ft wide with macadam shoulders, length of highway, 45.5 chains, total cost, £ 8.2D0. This includes £ 1,000 for a 6in. water main. This makes a total of £27.430 for the two propositions. Of this the borough estimates to raise £15,118 by loan proposals subject to a subsidy of £12,312 from the Main Highways Board. The Mayor. Mr. A. E. Greenslade, considered this is the most economical method for the roading difficulties to be dealt with. Both Councillor Munn and Councillor Weaver agreed with him that population and consequent increasing valuation follow good roads, and they could expect to reap a good reward for the sum spent in concrete roading. The approval of the No. 1 District Highways Council, Whangarei, for the proposed reconstruction works is to be ! sought. The two proposals will be | submitted as one scheme.
