AUDIENCE WITH POPE

MAORIS’ PRIEST RETURNS BACK TO BAY OF ISLANDS The Rev. Father McDonald, a Millhiil father from the Bay of Islands district, returned to Auckland to-day by the Mararna from Sydney. While in Rome Father McDonald had the honour of an audience with the Pope, having joined a pilgrimage from Liverpool of members of the Catholic Truth Society. “We were extremely fortunate in receiving a short address from the Holy Father,” said Father McDonald. "There were hundreds awaitin# an audience as we passed through the Vatican. Many of these people merely had the satisfaction of kissing the Pope's hand.”

Father McDonald, after an absence of 12 months in Europe, will return to the North to continue his work among the Maoris. ,
