RUGBY IN HAURAKI

OPENING GAMES PLAYED (From Our Own Correspondent) NGATEA, Monday. The Rugby season on the Hauraki Plains opened on Saturday last when interclub competition matches were played. The games were of the typical “first of the season” kind and the fields were very hard, but the standard of play was promising and the games interesting. Turua beat Ngatea by five points to three, though Ngatea had the better of the game. J. Catlin scored and E. Gill converted for Turua and C. Young scored for Ngatea, Nichol’s kick failing. A feature of the game was the sound play of the last year’s junior grade players. % Playing for Waitakaruru D. Molesworth scored twice and kicked a penalty goal and for Hauraki Plains West R. Benny scored once. In the junior grade match at Ngatea the Turua team were much superior and won by 14 to nil. F. Olsen scored twice, W. McCoid and W. Hutchinson once each, and J. Marshall converted once.
