WHANGAREI DRAINAGE

(From Our Oion Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, To-day. The steady growth of Whangarei has caused the borough council to face the question of the reconstruction of the drainage system in order to cope with suburban extensions. At a special meeting last night the council considered a report from Auckland engineers and decided to submit the question to a poll. A new comprehensive drainage scheme for the whole borough in two parts, the more urgent in the lower levels to be undertaken at once at a cost of £26,5G7, and the remainder of the scheme later on. In moving the resolution Mr. L. J. Brake, the Mayor, said they were anxious to avoid increasing any burden on the ratepayers, but the present systme was insufficient and expensive, and likely to be more expensive. The ratepayers in the long run would be more economically and satisfactorily served by a thoroughly efficient scheme such as that submitted.
