SWIMMING TROUBLES

CHAIRMAN WILL SEE OUT SEASON AUCKLAND CENTRE MEETING The recent trouble on the Auckland Swimming Centre which led to the resignation of the chairman, Mr. J. Enwriglit, and his subsequent decision to reconsider the position, was referred to again at the meeting last evening. “I have given the question further consideration,” said Mr. Enwriglit, “and I have made up my mind not to carry on any longer.” Mr. H. Moore, secretary, asked Mr. Enwright to finish out the season, even though he were serious in his decision to resign. He would be a big loss to swimming. Mr. Enwright pointed out that since the last meeting he had practically committed himself to something else, and if it eventuated he would not be able to attend any more meetings. Mr. Moore said there would be only one or two more meetings. Mr. Enwright eventually agreed to continue on in the position of chairman, on condition that, should has business project eventuate, he would not be bound to stay on. The resignation of Mr. J. Meikle, as a delegate of the Waitemata Swimming Club, was received with regret. Mr. Meikle, who leaves this week for Wellington, where he will live in future, wrote asking for a transfer to the United Club in that city. A motion of thanks for the work done in the past for swimming was accorded Mr. Meikle. He is a well-known swimmer and has always been prominent at carnivals held for many seasons past. The request of the Centre to the Auckland City Council, for a rebate of the sum charged for the hire of the Tepid Baths on the night of the Olympic carnival, was declined. The Centre was informed that this step had been taken because the Council had contributed £lO 10s to the Olympic Fund. A letter from the New Zealand Council stated that the amount collected from the Swimming Association to send Olympic Games representatives would total £ SOO. There would be a balance of about £4OO to be found.
