Savidan Wins the Metropolitan Cup
harrier season opens EARLY START FOR WINTER ATHLETICS After an exciting finish in the one-and-a-half mile steeplechase at the official ushering in of the 1927-28 harrier season at Carlaw Park on Saturday, J. W. Savidan defeated N. F. Cooper by eight yards, thus winning the Metropolitan Cup. \\ T IXTER athletics have begun early ▼ » this season, and consequently many of the harriers were not in the best* of form. It was not long before the onlookers could see that the issue lav between Savidan and Cooper, and the other starters for the most part faded out before the last lap began. The early start this season probably accounts also for the time registered, Sm 41s, which is on the slow side. Two heats were run in the 75yds handicap, and although A. J. Elliott dead-heated with A. E. Butler for first place in the preliminary heat, he was living a wav too much to get further up than third in the final. There the time. 7 3-ss. was very fair considering track conditions.
