PAKURANGA HUNT
OPENED ON SATURDAY GOOD RUNS ENCOUNTERED The first run of the season for the Pakuranga Hunt Club was held on Saturday. There were over 50 members present, and over a dozen of them were qualifying for the races to be held later in the season. The ground, although a trifle hard, held the scent well, and some great runs were had. Two kills were registered during the meet. The meet was arranged for Green Mount, and the first hare was put up on Mr. T. Muir’s property, and after a short run the quarry found shelter in some scrub. The party then journeyed to Mr. R. G. Ross’s farm, and leading the chase to Mr. Muir’s property, it crossed the road into Mr. Ferguson’s, and after making the skirmish round the ti-tree, had the misfortune to be killed in the turnip field alongside. A change of country was then made to Smale’s Mountain, and after working the new area for a short time, a splendid run eventuated, starting from the base of the mountain. Bunny led them across the road, and round the bank of Lushington’s quarry. Recrosing the road, a long run was made round Smale’s Mountain, a kill eventually being registered on Mr. Chris. Allen’s property. Another hare was put up in the quarry, but after a. short run on to the mountain it found shelter in a culvert. The last hare of the day was raised on Mr. Allen’s farm, and made for the quarry, leading the hounds over the top and down the scoria face, to be eventually lost in the quarry. The master, Mr. H. Bullock-Webster, ,was in charge of the hunt. The official opening of the season will be held next Saturr*-- when his Excellencv the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson, will be present.
