NEGLECTED TROPHIES

TWO RUGBY CUPS NEED A SHINE VANCOUVER AND MOASCAR CUPS (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, To-day. There are at least two sports challenge cups which are likely never to be competed for and no one 'knows what isflikely to become of them. At present «they repose in Wellington sadly needing a shine. The two unwanted trophies are “the Vancouver Cup, presented by the Mayor of Vancouver to the All Blacks on their way home from England, and the Moascar Cup, which was brought home by the New Zealand Mounted Rifles from Egypt and subsequently presented to the Rugby Union. The Moascar Cup was offered for competition among secondary schools and the Vancouver Cup to primary schools. Several secondary schools declined to enter into competition for their cup on the grounds that they do not play games for trophies, and then others found that to compete would entail a great deal of travelling, with expense that they did not feel justified in undertaking. The Rugby Union suggested that the cup might be competed for by various group of schools, a different group to have tne trophy each year, but the secondary schools’ association has not favoured this plan. Regarding the Vancouver Cup, primary schools were divided into two grades, the first to compete for the - up, and a second cup to be presented by the Rugby Union for the juniors. The competition would be won on points in district competitions and long-dis-tance travelling would not have been necessary. This, however, has not met with the approval of the schools and there the matter rests until the annual meeting of the Rugby Union.
