HUNGRY FOR LAND

APPLICANTS AT TAIHAPE CROWN LANDS BALLOT (From Our Own Correspondent) TAIHAPE, To-day. A ballot for Crown lands at Omatane was held at Taihape yesterday, and was attended by 242 applicants. The applicants were examined by departmental officials, and preference for those to go to the ballot was given to returned soldiers, married applicants with families, and unsuccessful candidates in previous ballots. Of the 242 applicants, 60 went to the ballot for the first section of 182 acres—»axv land recognised as good sheep country. Mr. Chas. O’Brien, a railway guard, \vp.s the successful applicant.

The second •section, consisting of 250 acres, mostly bush cgujitry, was won by one of four women applicants, ■vtps- x.a wtnn of WancarmL
