BRIDE-ELECT HONOURED MISS .MARY REESE Golden chrysanthemums and am-ber-tinted dahlias provided a gay note of colour in the effective decorations in the drawing room of Mrs. R. Roberts’s home in Remuera Road yesterday afternoon, when Miss Mary Reese, of Wellington, whose marriage will take place shortly, was the guest of honour at a bridge party. Mrs. Roberts wore a pretty frock of beige and naples blue figured georgette,' banded with deep ecru lace. Miss Reese was wearing a frock of mignonette green tricolette with selfcoloured embroidery. During the afternoon competitions were won by Mrs. R. Scott and Miss Marjorie Clarke-, and the prize for the highest bridge score went to Mrs. B. Hutchings. Among the guests were: Mrs. Math eson,-. PLUNKET SOCIETY MEETING AT PUKEKOHE (From Our Oxen Correspondent) PUKEKOHE, Friday. The annual meeting of the Franklin branch of the Plunket Society was held at Pukekohe on Thursday, Mrs. PI. IT. D. Wily presiding. The report stated that the branch had been instituted seven years ago and was now in a sound position. During the year a sub-branch had been established at Pokeno, and in the centres of Pukekohe, Tuakau, and Pokeno the nurse had made visits and received calls totalling 5,818. The new rooms had been erected and furnished and were a credit to the branch. In the past year a “Franklin Cot” had been endowed at the Karitane Home. A pleasing feature of the week of campaign for funds in October was the encouraging assistance received from the outlying districts. Me Whir ter. * TAUMARUNUI BRANCH (From Our Own Correspondent) TAUMARUNUI, Friday. The president, Mrs. L. G. Godfrey,, was in the chair at the annual meeting of the Taumarunui Plunket Society, at which there was a very representative attendance. Apologies were received from Mesdames Carter. Weatherhog, Stanton, Roscoe Smith, Barker and Johnston. The president referred to the regret they all felt at the departure of Mrs. T. P. Weatherhog, and to the great amount of work put in by the nurse, Miss Worthington. Mrs. Godfrey intimated that she would not seek re-election to the presidential office. Mrs. C. P. Smith proposed and Mrs. J. R. Powell seconded a most hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Godfrey for her services to the society over a number of years, and expressing the hope that she would be table to act on the committee. Mrs. B. M. Hellings, the secretary, tendered her resignation owing to pressure of work, the withdrawal being accepted with great regret. • Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. R. Brierly. , A The various reports were adopted, the balance-sheet showing a credit of £l7l 9s for the year. NGATEA BRANCH (From Our Own Correspondent) NGATEA, Friday. A satisfactory year’s working was disclosed at the annual meeting of the Ngatea branch of the Plunket Society, which was held on Thursday afternoon, Mrs. W. G. Hayward presiding. Eighteen members were present. The officers appointed for the year were:—President, Mrs. W. G. Hayward; vice-presidents, Mrs. McCarthy and Mrs. W. McDuff: s#:retary and treasurer, Mrs. W. Motion; executive committee, Mesdames Dudding, Irwin, Coppins, Vow'les and McTaggart; advisory board, Messrs. Hayward, Foster, Waite, Motion, Wylde and Walton. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £27 3s Id, and the annual report recorded that the number of visits of mothers and babies to the ; consulting-room had again shown an Increase. Appreciation was expressed to Ngatea residents for donations received and to Mesdames Hayward, Paul, Coppins and McDuff, who had arranged and successfully carried out a social to raise funds for a car for the nurse. The report concluded with an expression of thanks and appreciation of the good work of the Plunket Nurse, Miss Perrin, and of sympathy with her j in her recent indisposition. BRIDGE PARTY
Mrs. R. H. McLean, of Wanganui Avenue, Herne Bay, gave an enjoyable bridge party yesterday afternoon in honour of Miss May Rowe, of Christchurch, who is spending a holiday in Auckland. The house was attractively decorated with bowls of long yellow and gold dahlias, and in the drawing room, where tea was served, vases of scarlet and white flowers were effectively arranged. Mrs. McLean wore a smart gown of J black satin crepe with a draped skirt i of knife-pleating. Miss Rowe was wearing a irock of ’ canton jade crepella with oriental em- i broidery on the side panels.
