CHEMISTS’ SHOP HOURS
PUBLIC FEARS ALLAYED POSITION MADE CLEARER To. allay the misapprehension and uncertainty which exists In some districts as a result oi! the proposed requisition restricting the Sunday business hours of chemists’ shops, the Labour Department has issued a statement. An impression has gone abroad that the only shop where medicines may In future be continuously obtained on Sundays is the “all-night” dispensary at the top of Symonds Street. Residents of outlying parts, particularly those of the North Shore, have expressed -concern that they would have to journey long distances to obtain medicines. “The effect of proposed requisition is that all chemists’ shops, except the Symonds Street dispensary, will be required to close at 7 a.m. on Sundays,” states the department. “But, notwithstanding the. requisition, any chemist who carries on business at a distance of 2£ miles from the Symonds Street shop is permitted to sell urgent medicines at any time of the day or night. The distance is to be measured by the nearest route as may be determined by the department. Outside that radius, however, chemists may not throw their premises open to the public, hut may admit persons whose cases are urgent, the doors then to be closed.”
