Mr- J- W. Court left for the South last evening by the Limited. jvlr. T. W. Rhodes, M.P., arrived from Wellington this morning by the Limited. The Hon.. W. XL Triggs, M.L.C., was a passenger from Wellington this morning by tlio first express. Mr. T. S. Robertson, of Paparoa, has been appointed engineer to the Rotorua County Council. Mr. J- H. Luxford, S.M., has been appointed chairman of the Waikato Licensing District, vice Mr. W. Wilson. Captain L. M. Isitt, who is in Auckland m connection with the establishment of the air base at Hobsonville, wrill take up his residence here shortly. Colonel-Commandant 11. R. Potter, C. O.C. NortheAi Command, returned from Wellington this morning by the Limited. Lieutenant-Colonel J. E. Duigan, D. who has been visiting Wellington, returned to Auckland this morning. Mr. D. A. J. Rutherford, superintendent of schools for Western Samoa, arrived from the South this morning. He will return to Samoa by the Tofua to-morrow. Mr. A. R. Harris, of Christchurch, general manager of the Radio Broadcasting Company of New Zealand, Ltd., is staying at the Royal Hotel. Major T. M. Wilkes, Director of Air Services, who has been inspecting the airbase site at Hobsonville, is returning to Wellington this evening. The Rev. W. J. Elliott, president of the Methodist Conference, left for Napier last evening to lay the foundation stone of a new Sunday school to-morrow. Commissioner Hay and Brigadier Scotney, of the Salvation Army, arrived from Wellington by the Limited this morning. They will attend the opening of the Rescue Home at Parnell to-morrow afternoon. Mr. Alfred Peckham, of Mercer, and Mr. William Knight, of Brookby, have been appointed rangers for the Auckland Acclimatisation district under the Animals Protection Act. Sir James Gunson, who lias been touring in England and on the Continent, will return to Auckland in June. It is understood he will not be accompanied by Lady Gunson, who will remain for a time in England. Mr. G. N. Morris, official assignee, Auckland, and Mr. A. S. Houston, inspector of offices, Agricultural Department, Wellington, have been chosen by the New Zealand Public Service Union as its nominees on the Public Service Appeal Board.. Mr. E. R. Greenfield, who has relinquished the management of the New Regent Theatre in Auckland, received a presentation last evening. Mr. Maurice Guttridgc, who spoke on behalf of the house staff, expressed their keen regret at severing their connection with Mr. Greenfield, to whom he handed a gold watch and chain, and a fob, suitably engraved. An appropriate reply was made by Mr. Grenfield, who said that he had no plans for the immediate future. “I feel that I want a short rest from the solid work I have put in here and in Wellington,” he added.
