Candidates Selected by United Party
PRELIMINARY LIST COMMITTEES AT WORK * (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Today. The organiser of the United Political Organisation, Mr. A. E. Davy, announces that a number of candidates have been approved, and will be supported by the party at the forthcoming elections. Selection committees are at work in Christchurch, Dunedin and Auckland. Candidates approved are: Waitomo: Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, barrister and solicitor. Mayor of Te Kuiti, who unsuccessfully opposed Mr. J. C. Rolleston in the last election. Waikato: Mr. F. Lye, who represented the constituency from 1922 to 1925, but was defeated by Mr. S. Reid, Reform, last election. He is a successful dairy farmer, director of the Cambridge Dairy Company, was nine years president of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, and i 3 a member of the Cambridge Power Board. Manawatu: Mr. H. J. D. McManaway, formerly a strong Reformer, a veil-known sportsman, member of the Hunterville Town Board, director of the Rata Dairy Company, and a steward of the Marton Jockey Club. Awarua: Mr. P. de la Perrelle, who defeated the Nationalist candidate at the last election. He is chairman of the Southdown Education Board and has a good record as a member of various local bodies. Dunedin: Mr. W. B. Taverner. Mayor of Dunedin: Mr. J. Ouden, exMayor, twice chairman and now a member of the Otago Harbour Board; Mr. H. E. Moller, two years chairman ot the Otago Harbour Board, Mayor of Ravensbourne, and formerly Dunedin City councillor.
